A Social Day Club Serving Persons with Dementia-related Cognitive Impairment
With the establishment of Ingleside Engaged, a social day club for people with dementia-related cognitive impairment, Ingleside at King Farm is sharing its expertise with people who live outside the retirement community.
Ingleside Engaged provides structured and meaningful activities including fitness, creative arts, cognitively stimulating, entertaining and social experiences, in a safe and accepting environment.
A specially hired Certified Dementia Practitioner and the community's licensed Geriatric Nursing Assistant tailor each day's activities to the participants' individual preferences.
Ingleside Engaged is limited to no more 10 participants per day, purposefully supporting an individualized and socially connective environment for all people.
Applicants must meet specific requirements, including having a medical diagnosis of progressive dementia and assessment in the middle stages of dementia. Participants must be able to manage Activities of Daily Living with minimal hands-on assistance, be able to move independently or using a mobility device, and not be at significant risk of falls due to an untreated balance or gait impairment. They must also be able to participate in programs on a level that allows for success and benefit and to socialize with their peers in the club. Additional requirements are explained during a personal interview prior to enrollment.
